Off the griddle

Life is like a pancake.

Usually, you plan to make pancakes – especially for breakfast. But pancakes are also great for an unplanned dinner.

The thing with making pancakes, though, is they never quite turn out the same. Sometimes they rise just perfectly, golden-brown and fluffy. Sometimes they end up flat and you just don’t know why. It could be you didn’t get the ingredients put together just right. Maybe you didn’t use as much flour this time as you did last time. Maybe the milk was too cold. Maybe the baking soda was off. Maybe the low pressure system that came through last night threw off the whole process… Whatever the reason, you grimace through the diner’s complaints knowing you’ll try again another time.

Yes, life is like a pancake. Except you can’t always get past the mistakes life hands you without a lot of heartache. And sometimes, you just don’t feel like trying again and probably wouldn’t except for the something bigger than you that’s always pushing you forward.
